Our Wheelchair Dance classes take place at the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre on Saturday from 12.00 to 1.00 and are attended by dancers of all abilities.
The Waltz remains the only dance whose romance links it with life’s happier moments and
conjures up visions of colourful flowing ball gowns, weddings and beautiful music
It has the ability to adapt and change to the musical style of the moment.
The soft flowing waltz action allows the dancers to express the phrasing and expression of this romantic dance. Dating back about 300 years and popular all over the world, the waltz is the “backbone” dance of the ballroom.
In Solo Waltz choreography the lyrical arm and body movements give this dance the soft and expressive character that is required to compliment the musical phrasing. In Combi-dance the tight turns require a degree of control and strength from the wheelchair user and this helps to develop sore strength and flexibility. In the duo couples the precision of each turn made in unison helps to develop chair skills and the ability to move in carefully defined patterns.
